What is MYP?
The MYP is designed as an educational framework for students aged from 11 to 16 years. It is a program that helps the students to develop important life skills. The MYP gives the students a very good opportunity to build their opinions and to develop their identities by consolidating their strengths so that they can face various challenges of real life.
The MYP grants the students the opportunities to develop their talents and to discover their preferences.
The framework of the MYP also enables the institutions to teach all kinds of educational programs, including national programs.
THE COMMUNITY PROJECT
The community project focuses on community and service, encouraging students to explore their right and responsibility to implement service as action in the community.
The community project gives students an opportunity to develop awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service learning
As a consolidation of learning, the community project engages in a sustained, in-depth inquiry leading to service as action in the community. (ibpublishing.ibo.org/projects guide)
personal project realization, students create a product or an output that is often creative, and demonstrate a consolidation of their learning in the MYP.
The personal project should address a challenge that is interesting for the student and personally motivates him.
The MYP personal project helps the students to undertake practical explorations through a research cycle, action and reflection that allow them to develop the qualities of the IB learner profile.
The MYP enables the students to develop the qualities of the learner profile as well as the international awareness through the elaboration of the work units, the development of teaching approaches and the implementation of the projects tailored to their ages.
Since the MYP is a program based on research, it aims to develop in the students a conceptual learning by highlighting the organization of the concept-driven program in order to reach a service action performed by the students to solve a community problem.
Action at the MYP
The action is an essential component in the learning process. It is very important that MYP students confront and solve community problems based on the knowledge they acquired in the context of the MYP subject groups.
Students are encouraged to be altruistic in their community by performing actions in the service of others. These actions enable the students to develop the qualities described in the IB learner profile by giving them responsibilities in their community appropriate to their age.
The action enables the students to be aware of their strengths and the areas they need to improve, this will help them to deepen their understanding and to understand their responsibilities towards the community.
The action has a tremendous impact on the personality of the students since it encourages the students to become independent, to work together, to be organized, to be audacious in taking concrete actions and showing empathy.
Finally, action at the MYP is a good preparation for the students so they can pursue in the CAS (creativity, activity, service) Diploma Program.
